Community Events
Are you interested in having a team of therapy dogs at your next community event?
SCCV volunteers attend many community events, providing canine therapy to attendees. For instance:
-
Each semester several teams attend Cuddle-a-Canine at The University of New Mexico (UNM), the UNM School of Law and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), to provide stress relief to students studying for exams.
-
Special “Read to the Dogs” sessions are available to elementary teachers who want their classes to develop their reading skills by reading to non-judgmental furry friends.
-
Skilled presenters bring their dogs to local schools to provide dog safety demonstrations, teaching students how to approach an unknown dog and what to do if a dog seems dangerous.
-
Upon special request, individualized programs and presentations involving therapy dog teams are available. SCCV coordinates special events with several facilities such as senior centers, community centers, and organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters and New Mexico Cancer Services.
SCCV therapy dog teams are frequently invited by Animal Protection of New Mexico (APNM) to participate in interactive presentations. These outreach opportunities are only available through SCCV and are a wonderful benefit for our members.
These are just some of the many contributions SCCV makes to the community. Find out how you can have therapy dogs at your special event. Submit the information below, and the Community Outreach Liaison will contact you shortly.
Because of the popularity of the SCCV therapy dogs we ask that you please submit your request for therapy dog visits or presentations as far in advance as possible.
